From 19 September 2026 to 28 February 2027, the Heidi Horten Collection presents the artist’s most comprehensive retrospective to date. Across two floors, painting, sculpture and performance explore ecology, mythology and female self-determination. Prepare to be surprised and discover fresh perspectives on the relationship between humanity and nature.

How closely are humans and nature connected? Elisabeth von Samsonow’s art invites us to rediscover this relationship. From September 19, 2026, through February 28, 2027, the Heidi Horten Collection will present its most comprehensive retrospective of the artist’s work to date.

At the heart of the exhibition is a colorful forest of sculptures: life-size wooden figures meet vibrant paintings, and human faces merge with animal and plant forms. Early drawings and videos of her performances, on view for the first time, offer further insights into Samsonow’s multifaceted body of work.

Ecology, mythology, and female self-determination permeate the exhibition. Works related to the “Land of the Goddesses” in the Pulkautal valley in Lower Austria explore how we treat the Earth. Ten works from the collection selected by Samsonow—including pieces by Francis Bacon and Egon Schiele—create surprising dialogues with her art.

Immerse yourself in a cosmos full of color and imagination—and let yourself be inspired to see nature in a new light.
